About Mobile Smart Phones

What are mobile smart phones?

‘Mobile’ obviously refers to the fact that these gadgets are easily portable and are equipped with batteries for this purpose. Battery life itself may differ from one phone model to the next.

‘Smart’ means that these devices are not simply voice and text transmission utilities, as well, they are mini laptops. The difference between them and laptops being a question of storage and memory capacity. However, with advances in technology, the gap gets smaller and smaller.

As far as cell phone technology is concerned, smart phones belong to the 2nd generation upwards. The earlier smart phones using first generation technology were not fully application-enabled and could therefore not be properly called ‘smart.’

The important features

First, the user of this device has the capability of voice and text messaging. Besides that, the device is able to compute and run applications ranging from word processors to spreadsheets to multimedia applications to internet browsers. Makers of software create versions of them for smart phones. The range of programs available on laptops is mostly present in smart phones.

Many smart devices are equipped with both local area and wide area network capabilities. Those features are enabled by Bluetooth technology and Wi-Fi respectively. The smart user is able therefore to access his office network or the web.

Most smart communicating and computing devices are equipped with LCD screens featuring full color. The latest screens are even touch-sensitive. This fact makes smart phones more appropriate for elderly people. LCD screens are much wider than the old models. They are therefore, much more legible and better for people with impaired eyesight.

The audio function is also highly developed in smart phones, most of them having attachments for earphones, another thing that makes them suitable for handicapped people.

Benefits

The essential benefit derived from smart devices is their portability. Many dedicated professionals have switched from laptops and notebooks to smart phones as their portable computing device of choice.

This is obviously because these devices are easily stored and brought around. The applications frequently needed for the kind of work that needs to be done are available for use anytime, anywhere. Furthermore, the fact that most smart phones are now equipped with QWERTY keyboards makes typing on them a breeze.

Advantages

Formerly, people had to have a separate storage for their working files and their phone directories. Even if people owned devices allowing them to attach their phones to their computers, they would still need a third party program to coordinate the files on both devices.

Mobile smart phones, especially since most of them have LAN capabilities, are the logical choice for a central file storage to which you can save data and from which you can access and transmit any file you want to over a LAN or across the Internet.

Limitations

The presence of many different technologies used for smart phones may make wide area network coverage an issue for some users.
